“Is there anyone that can help us stay on top of our bills?”
I can remember the first time I heard that question. It was in January of 2002, and
I had just become the Manager of Turning Point Financial Counseling, commonly
known as Debt Free Christian. I wanted to understand what our counseling staff
experienced when they spoke with people inquiring about our services, so I took
to manning the phones with them. The above question came at the end of my
first day on the phones.
In our line of work-credit card counseling-we receive hundreds of requests for
service each month. The needs vary across the whole personal financial spectrum-
credit cards, mortgages, student loans, bad debt, medical bills. No matter the
need, an overriding message comes through time and time again-people want
someone to help them steward the way they use their money.
After much prayer and waiting on the Lord, Debt Free was led to start a division
that works with personal finances in a revolutionary way. It is called Turning Point
Stewardship. This team dives right in to help bring wisdom, direction and hands-on
support to Christians and their finances all across Southern California. People are seeing
positive results after a short amount of time using their services.
Like the family in Glendora who was praying for help to better use the resources
God has given to them from their work. They were not in a bad situation-they just
believed they could do a better job of being stewards of the money God has
blessed them with. They had goals to tithe in a more consistent manner and start
a savings program for their young daughter. They came to Turning Point Stewardship for
help.
After the initial consultation, it was determined their action plan should include having
the family’s fixed bills paid for them electronically by Turning Point Stewardship. This
allowed them to focus on an area of greater need- controlling their unplanned spending.
They had seen this area get away from them and with Turning Point Stewardship’s
support, they now have this area back under control.
The above case is typical of what takes place when Christians come together in
community to support God’s plan for believers. Bringing in specialists that have the
same heart and mind as you for your life allows God to do greater things for you. And
we ALL know God is blessed when His children work together to bring Him glory!

do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom
