How Rich are you?
How do you define “Rich”? Is it how much you make? How about, how much you have? Or, better yet, how much you save? The answer is none of these. It’s all about how much you GIVE. How’s your giving? How rich are you?
In Malachi 3:8-10, God tells us, "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse - the whole nation of you - because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Wow, those are harsh words, rob, curse, rob God. No wonder we don’t hear much about these verses.
Most of us Christians struggle with tithing, giving money to the church…to God’s work. Yet, we Americans are one of the most giving nations in the world. Nonetheless, God’s standard is always higher. God’s people can do better and we need to. The average believer tithes around 2.5% and it’s declining.
People often ask, How much should I tithe? There are many well thought-out answers to this question and many vary from each other. Without delving into this question too deeply, let me ask you a question: How rich do you want to be? Let your answer guide you in finding a helpful resolution to how much you should tithe. Commit to tithe more, more than last year. How about next year being better than this year? But there’s a problem.
Usually it’s not difficult convincing someone they ought to tithe. Most people want to give. But, it just doesn’t get done. There are many reasons: lack of planning, lack of education, lack of money at the end of the month, lack of discipline. Wait a minute, did someone say DISIPLINE? There it is. There’s the rub. It’s discipline. The “Just Do(ing) it” part.
Crown Ministry has done a wonderful job of educating believers on Christian financial principles, including tithing. Their self professed challenge, getting their folks to DO IT, to implement. There it is again, DISCIPLINE.
There are so many important things in life that we can’t delegate. If we don’t do it, it won’t get done: parenting, dieting, exercising, to name just a few. But, do you know what? I have some great news. One area, and maybe one of the most important areas of your life, can be delegated…to make sure it gets done. It’s your finances. That is what sets Turning Point Stewardship apart from all the rest. We do it for you. We make sure your financial goals, including your tithing goals, get accomplished…each and every month. TPS help folks become rich givers!
